Enjoying an idyllic country setting in rural Worcestershire,
Tardebigge offers a great choice of cruises for both novice and
experienced boaters.
Several great ‘Rings’ are accessible from the base – the Stourport
Ring is very popular – as well as many ‘there and back’ options,
including Stratford Upon Avon, Warwick and Worcester. Central
Birmingham and rural Lapworth are favourites for Short Break cruises
from the base. You can moor in the heart of the ‘City of Canals’ and
enjoy the cosmopolitan atmosphere of this vibrant city, teeming
with bars, restaurants and numerous attractions, or if city life is what
you’re escaping from, then head to Lapworth on the North Stratford
Canal; a gorgeous rural cruise with plenty of pubs serving great
food to give you a break from the galley!
Whatever length of break you have time for, be assured
Tardebigge has some great options, and where better to
start your canal boating holidays, than the ‘Heart of England’. |

Cruising south from the base, a good first stop is Wilmcote, with
Mary Arden’s House (Shakespeare’s Mother) just a short walk away.
Spend the evening in The Mary Arden Inn or The Masons Arms with
a relaxing meal, before setting off for Stratford the next morning.
You’ll be there by lunchtime and there’s so much to see and do.
From here you could buy a licence and lock down onto the River
Avon, and cruise through the Cotswold countryside to Evesham
and Tewkesbury.
Heading north from Wootton, you are cruising through The Heart
of England, on into the cosmopolitan City of Birmingham. Not only
fantastic shops and restaurants but also an amazing blend of old
and new architecture, only truly appreciated from the canal. The
Symphony Hall, The National Indoor Arena, The Sealife Centre, The
Jewellery Quarter, Chinatown ...something for everyone. Don’t fancy
the bustle of the city? Then keep it rural by heading onto The Grand
Union at Kingswood Junction. Cruise down to Warwick and its castle,
or Leamington Spa, take in the famous ‘Hatton Flight’ of locks for a
real narrowboating treat.
Consider spending your fi nal night at the base
and enjoy the fantastic fare offered by our
neighbours at The Navigation Inn...chat over
the highlights of your break, and perhaps even
plan your next one. |
